Women of Ho-Bankoe, a community within the Asogli Traditional Area in Ho, have staged a protest express their discontent over the actions of Togbe Afiatsoa III, Mankralo (sub-divisional chief) of Ho-Bankoe.
The protest, led by Mama Bobi III, the Aƒet? Ny?nufia of Bankoe, follows a series of incidents they believe threaten the peace and unity of their community.
The women’s frustration is hinged on what they describe as a disturbing pattern of behavior by Togbe Afiatsoa III, since his enstoolment in 2023.
Most recently, Torgbe Afiatsoa III drew widespread criticism for allegedly invoking the gods of the land to curse a Queenmother, over some disagreements.
This action among other accusations has caused rage among the women, who have presented a petition to the Agbogbomefia Torgbe Aƒede XIV, the paramount chief of Asogli State, demanding Torgbe Afiatsoa’s destoolment.
The petitioners expressed grave concerns over his conduct and its potentials to create discord within the traditional area.
The aggrieved women declared, “It is common knowledge that a chief is strictly prohibited from invoking curses, especially against a superior.
Such behavior is grounds for immediate destoolment as it constitutes gross insubordination, treachery, and a deliberate attempt to undermine the peace and unity of Ho-Bankoe. Clearly, Torgbe Afiatsoa III has been rejected by the gods of our land.”
They emphasized the traditional and spiritual implications of the chief’s actions, calling on Togbe Afede XIV to uphold the customs of their land and remove Torgbe Afiatsoa III from his position.
“We therefore humbly submit this petition to you as the leader of Ho-Bankoe and, by extension, the entire Ho and Asogli State, to bring to fruition what has already transpired in the spiritual realm.”
“You are the custodian of our customs and traditions. We respectfully demand the immediate destoolment of Togbe Afiatsoa III and the enstoolment of a more deserving and capable individual to assume this honorable position.”
As of press time, Togbe Afede XIV had yet to make an official response to the petition.
