Following the Electoral Commission’s dismissal of calls by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a forensic audit of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR). Pressure Group, Election Watch Ghana is warning that Ghanaians will reject the results if this audit is not conducted.
The group emphasizes that resorting to the courts will not be an option, declaring, “We cannot afford to gamble with our democracy.”
This call for transparency aligns with demands from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political actors, who have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral roll.
According to Election Watch Ghana’s issues, including theft of biometric voter registration machines, discrepancies in registration figures, and the EC’s refusal to disclose official registrant numbers highlights the need for a forensic audit of the voters’ roll.
The group also points to what they call the EC’s history of compromise, including a past admission that the 2016 voter register included ineligible entries.
Election Watch is also urging the EC to collaborate with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for an impartial audit to ensure a credible electoral process.
With the elections set for December 7, the pressure for accountability and transparency is mounting. Election Watch Ghana warns that the future of Ghana’s democracy hangs in the balance, calling on all political parties and civil society organizations to join the fight for electoral integrity.
