Six Ghanaian stars were in action for their respective clubs over the weekend, with none of their teams able to record a victory in gameweek four of the English Premier League.
3Sports assesses how the Black Stars players fared over the weekend.
Arsenal, Thomas Partey
Arsenal’s lynchpin reached a century of Premier League appearances for the north London club in their crucial tie against title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Partey put in a decent performance in the 2-2 draw against City and was instrumental when Arsenal soaked up the pressure in the second half after Leandro Trossard was sent off before the break.
Partey came away with the joint-most tackles (3) on his 100th Gunners appearance and completed 25 of his 31 passes as Mikel Arteta’s side were denied three points with a last-gasp striker from John Stones.
Bournemouth, Semenyo
Antoine Semenyo put the ball behind Liverpool’s net but his goal was chalked off following a video assistant review (VAR) after five minutes.
The disallowed goal took the wind out of Semenyo’s sails as he looked a pale shadow of himself and was substituted after 70 minutes, ending his nine-game run of lasting the entirety of games for the Cherries.
Bournemouth were unable to withstand Liverpool’s attacking intent, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.
Crystal Palace, Jeffery Schlupp
The left-back was thrown onto the pitch by Oliver Glasner in Saturday’s late kick-off against Manchester United at Selhurst Park to help see out the game.
Schlupp replaced Eberechi Eze in stoppage time as Crystal Palace shared the spoils with Manchester United in a goalless affair.
Leicester City, Jordan Ayew & Fatawu Issahaku
Jordan Ayew lasted the full duration of Leicester’s clash against Everton at the King Power Stadium.
Just like his other promoted sides, the Foxes have struggled to kick on since securing promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, playing out a 1-1 draw on Saturday as they await their first top-flight win since the 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was introduced by Steve Cooper in added time as the Ghanaian winger barely had a touch on Saturday.
Mohammed Kudus, West Ham
West Ham have had a torrid time at the start of the 2024/25 season, with their struggles on full display as Chelsea eased past them in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at the London Stadium.
The game was taken away from the Hammers inside the first 20 minutes as Nicolas Jackson hit a brace before Cole Palmer added a third two minutes after the break.
Kudus was constantly probing as he looked to find a way back into the game for the Hammers, completing the most dribbles (5) of any West Ham player.
His efforts seemed to have paid off after 32 minutes but the former Ajax man had strayed away into an offside position, leaving the 24-year-old forward and West Ham fans frustrated with the referee’s decision to rule out the goal.
Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Tariq Lamptey was not a part of the matchday squad as they played out a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, while Kamaldeen Sulemana has still been sidelined with injury for Southampton.
