The flagbearer of the New Patritic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to reintroduce the car waiver for doctors and nurses when voted into office.
Dr Bawumia stated that he is in discussions with officials of the Ministry of Health to address delays in the payment of the nursing trainee allowance.
He was addressing nurses and midwives at the Teshie Nursing and Midwifery Training School as part of his Greater Accra Regional Tour.
“One of the things that you will see is that the former President when he was President took away the car import duty waiver, you remember that? I am bringing it back for all nurses, the car import duty waiver is coming back for all nurses as well as looking at ways to improve conditions of those posted into the rural areas,” he assured.
The flag bearer acknowledged the delay in the payment of trainee nurses allowance and promised to address that.
“We are working with the Ministry of Finance to make sure you don’t have delays, so I am hoping that we eliminate these issues of delays very soon for all of you,” the Vice President.
He was also pleased about the number of medical doctors recruited for the health sector.
