Black Stars coach Otto Addo has stressed the importance of securing a win in Ghana’s next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan in October, after failing to claim victory in their opening two games.
Ghana suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Angola and followed it up with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Niger, conceding a late equaliser. These results leave Ghana third in Group F with just one point, putting their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
“It [Playing against Sudan] will be difficult again. I knew from the start, that it’s just some little margins, little details which can decide. This will be again, for us it will be a crucial match.
“We have to win, there is no way around it, and we have to win. If we want to have the chance to play better after, we have to win. We are under pressure, this is for sure and we have to do better,” Otto Addo stated after the game against Niger.
The upcoming match will be even more intriguing as Ghana faces former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, who now leads the Sudanese side.
Sudan currently sit second in the group with three points, having beaten Niger 1-0 and narrowly losing to Angola 2-1.
