LGBTQ+: We will resist it with everything in us – Bawumia affirms

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated his resolve to protect the religious, moral and cultural sanctity of the people of Ghana claiming there will not be space for practicing of LGBTQI activities under his watch.

Addressing tribal council of chiefs in Kasoa as part of his central regional campaign tour, the NPP flagbearer said he will resist the practice with all available arsenals to him.

Clad in red, white and blue colours, members of the elephant party in the Awutu Senya East constituency poured out on the streets of Kasoa to welcome Dr Bawumia.

The campaign team visited two constituencies: Awutu Senya East and West to rally more supporters to vote to retain the party in power.

In Kasoa, he first met and interacted with party supporters and traders at the Kasoa market where he shared aspects of his manifesto promises with them.

The team was later received at the Kasoa Odikro’s palace where he engaged the council of tribal chiefs.

The chiefs declared their support for the NPP flagbearer and commended Dr Bawumia for eschewing politics of insult in the run-up to the December 7 polls.

“You have changed the face of politics in Ghana. We like the way you carry yourself and dwell on your policies. Now politics of insult is over. We are hopeful that by next year Ghanaians would have spoken,” one of tribal chiefs said.

The Vice President urged the people of Awutu Senya East to promote him with their votes to become the next presiden,t promising his burning desire to frown on LGBTQI activities under his watch.

He said, “Since independence, all vice presidents produced in Ghana have not worked more than I have. I introduced 33 different policies as vice president. My opponent cannot even boast of one policy that he has introduced. This shows that I have passed the vice-presidential test so promote me to become president.”

He also indicated that “LGBTQ will never happen under my watch. We will resist it with everything in us.”

He also took a swipe at his main contender, John Dramani Mahama describing him as second-hand president.

“If you vote for John Mahama back to power, you have voted for home-used second-hand president. But if you vote for me, the country will have brand new tear-rubber president so vote for me,” he said.

The campaign team later engaged some eligible voters and heads of Christian religious groupings in a town hall meeting.

The constituents present applauded the current administration for the implementation of viable social intervention programmes while the clergy called on all political parties to promote peace before, during and after the December polls.

MP for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson said the NPP deserves another chance to implement more pro-poor policies to impact the citizens.

In the Awutu Senya west constituency, Dr Bawumia joined the indigenes to celebrate the Awubia festival.

He said if elected president, he will initiate economic reforms that will improve small scale commerce in the country.
