The Ghana National Fire Service has initiated a forensic audit into the prolonged fight to contain the fire that broke out in some warehouses on Sunday afternoon at Zongo Lane near Makola Market in Accra
Although construction impediments have been cited, the audit is to know the exact cause of the fire.
The fire outbreak lasted until Monday afternoon and ravaged so many structures, destroying properties worth millions of Ghana cedis as it kept spreading to nearby structures containing combustible items.
The fire fighters said the fire lasted several hours because there were many impediments as store owners will not allow them break into the stores.
The challenge notwithstanding, the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Alex king Nartey said the fire officers will contain the fire.
He urged that structures developed must incorporate contingency plans to manage disasters. Mr Nartey also encouraged the traders to ensure disaster measures are in place before renting the shops.
The Metropolitan National Disaster Management Organization Coordinator, Samuel Ayee Okine said the Assembly is not aware the structures are used for warehouses instead of stores.
” The fire officers have to go through a lot of difficulty before the fire was contained,” he reiterated.
