The Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has described Graphic Communications Group’s Cleanest Region Campaign initiative as a move to bolster government’s efforts at dealing with sanitation across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the technical team, she charged all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) to get their acts together to ensure the success of the initiative.
The Graphic-Zoomlion Cleanest Region Ranking initiative aims to support the national agenda to make Ghana a clean country.
The campaign will rank all regions on proper waste management methods and general sanitation practices which will attain a score of 60% by the assessment team as well as 40% votes from the public.
The Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ato Afful, said proper waste management, green initiatives, and toilet management enhance the collective wellbeing of the population.
“Ultimately, we aim to make a tangible difference in environmental health, our collective wellbeing at a consistent level. It’s not a touch and go, this is an initiative that we will promote through our channels and the partnerships that we have.
We will continue to drive you over the days and years to come. We believe that clean streets, parks and public spaces promote a feeling of pride, and they attract more visitors and businesses,” he noted.
While commending the initiative, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon said it was important for all stakeholders to come on board to address the sanitation challenge because the government alone cannot not do it.
“As you all recall, his Excellency the President launched the National Sanitation Campaign on the 13th November, 2017 and called on all Ghanaians to support the drive by playing their part in changing their attitude towards littering, open defecation, and open urination. I am happy to see the good number of companies and private institutions ready to play their part. Safe and healthy living, Safe and a healthy working environment, we are all thriving to achieve,” she said.
