Ex Bournemouth player Jamie Redknapp was swooning over Antoine Semenyo’s performance for Bournemouth in their 1-1 stalemate against Newcastle on Saturday, describing the Ghanaian “as an absolute star”.
Redknapp began his career at Bournemouth as a teenager in 1989, before moving to Liverpool after featuring 13 times for the Cherries. The Sky sports pundit was full of praise for Semenyo.
Semenyo was instrumental in Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw at the weekend against Newcastle, rattling the frame of Nick Pope’s goal before teeing up Marcus Tavernier for the Cherries’ strike.
A great all-round attacking impetus was showcased by the Ghanaian; characterized by intense running, closing down opponents and persistent probing down the wing, which left Ex Bournemouth star Jamie Redknapp heralding the forward.
“Bournemouth were suddenly the better team. And In Semenyo, at the right wing, he is an absolute star,” he said on Sky Sports.
Semenyo has bagged 10 Premier League goals since completing a €10.3m switch from Bristol City to Bournemouth in 2023, with Redknapp indicating it’s time for the Cherries to cash in on the Ghanaian.
“I just think, and I don’t want to be selling Bournemouth’s players but you’ve got few days to that window; I think he cost £10m from Bristol City. What a great signing he was.”
“He is worth a fortune. He is such an elegant, graceful, powerful, player. He is got everything, that young man,” he added.
Dominic Solanke’s club record transfer (€64.3m ) from Bournemouth to Spurs has compounded the goalscoring responsibility on the Ghanaian forward, who has a goal and an assist after two league outings.
