Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick as Manchester City handed Ipswich Town a tough lesson in Premier League football with a commanding 4-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Ipswich, making their top-flight return after 22 years, enjoyed a brief moment of joy when Sammie Szmodics scored on his full debut, squeezing a shot past Ederson in the 7th minute. However, City responded swiftly and decisively, scoring three goals in just four minutes.
Haaland equalised with a penalty after a VAR review overturned the referee’s initial decision that Savinho had dived. Kevin de Bruyne then took advantage of a mistake by Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric to put City ahead. Haaland extended the lead, rounding Muric to score his second goal.
City’s dominance continued as they hit the woodwork twice and had a penalty shout from Ipswich’s Leif Davis turned down. The second half saw Ilkay Gundogan, who rejoined City from Barcelona, receive a warm reception upon his return.
Haaland completed his hat-trick with a late drive, sealing the win for Manchester City, who maintain a perfect start to the season. Ipswich, who lost their Premier League opener to Liverpool, are still searching for their first points.
