The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi has hinted that the Attorney-General (A-G) will take up investigations into the airbus scandal.
This hint comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) concluded its investigations into the case.
In a report issued on August 8, the OSP named the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Government Official 1 and his brother Samuel Adam Mahama as the intermediary alleged to have facilitated the payment of bribes to various officials.
The OSP however reported that there is no evidence that former President Mahama was involved or played any role in the procurement and maintenance of the agency relationship between Airbus, its agents and associates in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana.
Members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the report was made public, have expressed their disappointment about the work done by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
Speaking on Hot Edition on 3FM, MP for Asante Akim North Andy Appiah Kubi, said the OSP has lowered and undermined the process of prosecution.
“In the first place, the process of the investigation and prosecution did not even start well, and that’s how come we are here. The prosecution has been lowered and undermined and it does not augur well. I am disappointed”, he said.
He added that the Attorney General is likely to take over the matter.
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor, is under the Attorney-General, and because his work has been unsatisfactory, we know that crime and legal prosecution have no time limitation, so the Attorney-General can also investigate and prosecute the case,” he said.
A Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he describes as a “lazy job” in its investigation into the Airbus bribery scandal.
But Director of Conflict Resolution of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba who also spoke on Hot Edition, said “this is a clearest indication that the OSP is a man of his own.”
“Kissi Agyebeng has shown that he’s a man of his own, and nothing will cloud his sense of judgement. The investigation also for the umpteenth time, has shown that the reign of former president Mahama was devoid of any corrupt acts”, he added.
