Well-known songstress Mzbel has expressed her worries about the rise in cyberbullying and inappropriate use of social media.
Speaking candidly about her experiences, Mzbel disclosed that she has previously filed lawsuits against bloggers and members of the media, but these cases were kept private because of their delicate nature.
“I have sued media people before and taken a couple of people on, but it was not made public. They have learned their lessons and have repented. One is a journalist, and the rest are bloggers,” MzBel noted in an interview on Accra FM, July 29.

Mzbel remarked that in recent times, social media is mostly used negatively for character assassination and spreading false information.
“I feel like a lot of people are taking advantage of social media to do wrong things. We are abusing social media. Irrespective of the calibre of people, netizens will find a way to disrespect someone…Socia media has become like a weapon,” she lamented.
She criticised several internet publications for their propensity to run unconfirmed stories in an effort to generate clickbait.
The singer emphasized the need for accountability and appropriate behavior online and urged the government to enact stronger legislation against cyberbullying.
