A joint investigation has been launched by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA-CD) into a physical altercation between their officers at the Kulungugu Border Post in the Upper East Region.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, has prompted swift action from the leadership of both institutions.
High-level meetings have been held between Comptroller-General of Immigration Kwame Asuah Takyi and Commissioner of Customs Brigadier General Zibrim Bawah Ayorrogo to address the situation. A joint committee has been established to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
In addition, the officers in charge of both Immigration and Customs at the Kulungugu Border Post have been directed to work closely together under the auspices of the Border Security Committee (BOSEC) to maintain order and ensure the smooth flow of people and goods across the border while awaiting the findings of the investigation.
Both institutions have expressed deep regret over the incident, which disrupted the smooth flow of people and goods across the border. They have assured the public of their commitment to working together to maintain national security and facilitate trade.
The public will be duly informed of the outcome of the investigation, and the GIS and GRA-CD are working to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
