Withdraw the L.I on cement as well – Minority tells govt after withdrawing L.I on Road Traffic Amendments

The minority in Parliament has welcomed the withdrawal of the controversial Legislative Instrument (LI) on Road Traffic Amendments to Regulation 74.

The opposition lawmakers however asked the government to also withdraw the other controversial L.Is such as the one that is seeking to regulate the prices of cement.

Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Agbodza said in Parliament on Tuesday, July 16 “There are other LIs that have been laid that the public is also not happy bout. I will encourage them to withdraw that also. The Minister of Trade is here, the L.I on cement he should come and withdraw that as well.”

The Minister of Local Government Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah on behalf of the Transport Minister withdrawn the controversial Legislative Instrument (LI) on Road Traffic Amendments to Regulation 74 on Tuesday July 16.

There was a huge public outrage over the proposed law that sought to amend portions of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012.

“This has become necessary based on the extensive engagement with leadership. It is so withdrawn.”

The Minority had earlier demanded the withdrawal of the proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations.

“We have instructed all our Members on the Committee to strongly oppose it at the committee level.

“We have also directed all 137 NDC Members of Parliament to vote en bloc against the Legislative Instrument when it is brought to the floor,” a statement by the Minority said on Tuesday, July 16.
