England have booked their place in the Euro 2024 final after a last-gasp winner from substitute Ollie Watkins secured a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in a tense semi-final clash.
Gareth Southgate’s men looked destined for extra time after Harry Kane’s penalty cancelled out Xavi Simon’s early opener for the Dutch.
However, Watkins, replacing Kane late in the game, rose to the occasion with a stunning strike to send England into their second consecutive European Championship final.
This upcoming match will be a historic one, as it marks England’s third meeting with Spain at the Euros. Interestingly, England emerged victorious in both their previous encounters (1980 group stage and 1996 knockout stage).
However, Spain will be a formidable opponent, aiming to rewrite history themselves. They boast an undefeated record in the tournament, having won all six games without needing penalties.
Additionally, they lead the scoring charts with a staggering 13 goals. Spain are also on a mission to become the first nation to win the Euros four times, having secured victories in 1964, 2008, and 2012.
The stage is set for an epic clash between these two European giants.
