Disappointment from England fans boiled over after their team’s scoreless draw with Slovenia in Euro 2024 on Tuesday.
Defender Ezri Konsa revealed that cups were hurled “from all angles” at the end of the match, with some even hitting the families and friends of England players.
While a couple of cups were aimed at manager Gareth Southgate, Konsa clarified that the players’ loved ones weren’t specifically targeted. However, they were caught in the crossfire, with Konsa himself mentioning his brother getting hit.
“We were aware of it because I think some of our family members got hit with a few drinks,” he said.
“We check on them. There’s kids in the stands with family so we always have to check on them, reassure them and ask if they’re all right.”
Despite the incident, Konsa downplayed the seriousness, stating, “in football stuff like that happens.” England secured the top spot in Group C and will face Slovakia in the knockout stages.
This incident highlights the frustration amongst some England fans after a string of underwhelming performances.
England will play Slovakia in the last 16 of the tournament.
