Former Ghanaian footballer Nii Odartey Lamptey has opened up about the traumatic moment he discovered that the three children he thought were his with ex-wife Gloria Appiah were not biologically his.
This revelation came after a DNA test, which left the former Anderlecht star in deep emotional turmoil.
Lamptey revealed the extent of his distress during an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, where he admitted he contemplated a violent response. “Yes, I considered using the gun, but God spoke to me, and I have not touched it since. It was in my Tundra, but I chose not to do anything,” he said.
“I was devastated, but I remained patient, and that has brought me to where I am today. I believe it was divine intervention that stopped me from using the gun. It used to be in my Tundra, but I decided never to touch it again.”
He emphasised the importance of self-control in such intense moments. “I had to control my anger, or I could have ended up in prison. And I wouldn’t have my three children now. Sometimes, when you’re angry, you have to think twice before acting.”
The situation eventually led to a legal battle over property ownership. Gloria Appiah sought to claim Lamptey’s seven-bedroom house in East Legon as part of her alimony, but her claim was dismissed.
In 2017, the Accra High Court ordered Appiah to vacate the property, awarding her instead Lamptey’s four-bedroom house in Dome, a car, and 200,000 Ghanaian cedis.
Despite the ordeal, Lamptey has found happiness again. He is now married to actress Ruweida Yakubu, and the couple has been blessed with three beautiful children. Lamptey’s journey from trauma to recovery highlights his resilience and the positive turn his life has taken.
In addition to his personal life, Lamptey has continued to contribute to football. He played a crucial role in assisting coach Desmond Offei as the Ghana U-20 team clinched the gold medal in men’s football at the African Games.
