
Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt disclosed that assistant referee Tomasz Listkiewicz apologiaed for a contentious offside call that contributed to their elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
The incident occurred in stoppage time when De Ligt thought he had scored, only for the assistant referee to raise his flag for offside, preventing the use of VAR to review the decision.
Had the goal stood, it would have leveled the score at 2-2 for Bayern Munich.
“[He] said ‘I am sorry, I made a mistake’,” De Ligt stated, expressing frustration over the error and the impact it had on the outcome of the match.

Referee analyst Christina Unkel highlighted two errors in the officials’ decision-making process, emphasising the deviation from standard protocol and the subsequent whistle blown by the referee.
Bayern Munich’s disappointment was compounded by Joselu’s equaliser following a mistake from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who expressed his regret over the outcome.
Manager Thomas Tuchel empathised with Neuer’s situation, acknowledging the rarity of such errors from the experienced goalkeeper.

The defeat proved bitter for Bayern Munich, who had led until the 85th minute, with Tuchel acknowledging the disappointment felt by Neuer and the team.
