Spanish authorities have heightened security measures ahead of Champions League fixtures amidst reported threats from ISIS.
Concerns have emerged particularly for the clash between Manchester City and Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, and Arsenal’s match against Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium, scheduled for Tuesday.
La Vanguardia reports over 1,270 security personnel deployed in Madrid, with over 2,000 agents from the National Police and Civil Guard, along with Municipal Police, ensuring safety for players, coaches, and spectators.
Fernando Grand-Marlaska, Head of The Ministry of the Interior, emphasized the activation of early warning and protection systems to prevent potential terrorist threats.
UEFA has acknowledged the alleged threats and assured appropriate security arrangements at venues, confirming that all matches will proceed as scheduled.
Security operations extend to Atletico Madrid’s fixture against Borussia Dortmund at Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday, and Paris Saint-Germain hosting Barcelona.
