The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is learning lessons from Tuesday’s defeat in the Assin North by-elections.
The ruling party said it views the outcome of the by-election as a wake-up call.
It said it has been prompted to evaluate its approach, make rational retrospective assessments and conduct thorough analysis.
These were contained in a statement issued by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Wednesday, June 28 in the wake of the party’s loss in the Assin North by-election.
The party’s candidate, Charles Opoku, polled 12,630 to come second in the by-elections won by James Gyakye Quayson, who polled 17,245.
The party threw everything at winning the polls with the President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, Ministers of State, Presidential Candidate aspirants, among others, campaigning vigorously for the seat.
But it ended in defeat.
“We urge our dedicated party supporters to submit their comments and recommendations to the national secretariat of the party for consideration and possible implementation.”
It, however, congratulated the leadership of the party “for their unwavering dedication, commitment, and overwhelming support”.
It also congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate for emerging victorious.
