Family of the late Tetteh Quarshie, the man credited with the introduction cocoa into the Ghanaian economy have reunited to revive his legacy.
The Hammond family which represents the matrimonial heritage and the Quarshie family which represents the patrimonial heritage of Tetteh Quarshie today embarked on a tour of the Mampong traditional area to identify with the original farm in which their great grandfather first planted his cocoa seeds he brought from Fernando Po (Equatorial Guinea).
Spokesperson for the Tetteh Quarshie family, Francis Opai Tetteh explained that the family’s decision to reunite was to present a single voice in their bid to revive the legacy of Tetteh Quarshie in Ghana.
He also indicated that a foundation has been created by the family with the sole aim of helping needy students in the vocational and technical education field.
The family before visiting the Tetteh Quarshie farms, hospital and family house, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Mampong Akuapem, Osabirima Nana Kwame Otu Darte III.
Ultimate News’ Eastern Regional correspondent Kojo Ansah reported that the chief bemoaned the fact that the family of the famous cocoa farmer cannot even boost of a ten acre land of cocoa farms themselves.
He advised the foundation to consider going into cocoa farming if they truly want to revive the legacy of Tetteh Quarshie.
