The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, has granted bail to two men accused of taking part in a violent robbery attack at Sakumono Beach during this year’s Salah festivities.
The accused persons – Gideon Nartey, alias Obolo, aged 20, unemployed and Daniel Adakwah, alias Akali, aged 25, a bar attendant — were each admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, who must justify with title deeds to properties registered in their names.
The court further ordered that the original documents be deposited with the court’s registry.
Both accused pleaded not guilty to multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit crime, causing harm, unlawful damage, robbery, and dishonestly receiving.
The case has been adjourned to November 24, 2025, for continuation.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Appiah-Ofori, told the court that the complainants, Zainal Ali Mohammed Abbass, Abdul Malik Monsoor, Anas Osama, Abdulai Mohammed and Waleed Monsoor are businessmen residing at Dansoman.
According to the prosecution, the complainants went to Sakumono Beach on June 6, 2025 around 6:30 p.m. to observe prayers during the Salah celebration.
Shortly after, they were attacked by a group of about nine men, some armed with cutlasses, knives, sticks and stones.
The assailants, including the first accused, allegedly inflicted deep cutlass wounds on the victims and made away with several valuable items, including Samsung Galaxy phones, Infinix Smart 8 and cash amounting to GH?1,500 and other personal belongings.
The gang also reportedly smashed the window of a Toyota Corolla (registration number GT 3617–23) belonging to one of the victims and ransacked the vehicle.
Police investigations revealed that prior to the attack, the first accused met his accomplices, some of whom remain at large at a drinking spot operated by the second accused at Ashaiman Fitter Line, where they hatched a plan to rob beachgoers of their mobile phones.
After the robbery, the accused allegedly shared the stolen items at the same drinking spot. The prosecution said the second accused, Adakwah, bought a Samsung S24 phone from the first accused and an accomplice known as George for ?800, knowing it to have been stolen.
Police tracked the phone through its new MTN SIM card (0550606679) and arrested Adakwah at Ashaiman, where the device was retrieved.
His statement to police led to the arrest of Nartey, while others identified as George, Nega 1, Kudus, Twitse and Forsty remain on the run.
