The latest outreach programme by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation (GFGF) for its host communities took on a broader and more impactful scope this quarter, offering a wide range of essential health services, as part of the fourth-quarter edition of its health campaign.
The event, held at the New Atuabo Astro Park, coincided with the Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness Month and provided free ENT consultations, malaria testing, dental and eye examinations, blood sugar and pressure checks, among other services, directly to residents of New Atuabo and surrounding communities.
A major highlight was a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration exercise, during which Telecel Ghana sponsored the registration of 500 residents and donated ultrasound medical equipment to support maternal and diagnostic services.
The programme, organized under the Pinktober 2025 theme “Support, Screen and Survive,” drew large participation and was well-coordinated.

As early as 9 a.m., many community members were already undergoing screening and accessing medical services.
Jointly organized by Telecel Ghana, Unilever Ghana, and the Rotary Club of Tarkwa, the outreach formed part of the Foundation’s Group Legacy Programme (GLP) — an initiative that emphasises health awareness and improved access to quality healthcare as a key pillar of sustainable community development.
In line with the Pinktober campaign, the outreach placed particular focus on breast cancer education and screening.
Over the past year, a total of 283 women have undergone breast cancer screening through various Foundation outreaches, with 49 referred for further medical assessment and care.
During the New Atuabo event alone, 630 community members were registered or had their NHIS cards renewed, ensuring continued access to healthcare services beyond the day’s activities.
Unilever Ghana supported the exercise with donations of toothpaste and hygiene products, which were distributed to all participants.
Significantly, about 60% of the healthcare professionals who provided services at the event were current or former beneficiaries of the Foundation’s scholarship programme, a testament to Gold Fields’ sustained investment in building local health capacity.
The remaining medical team comprised professionals from the Tarkwa Mine Hospital (Euracare) and health personnel from the Prestea-Huni-Valley and Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorates, who led the clinical operations.
Overall, the initiative once again underscored the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation’s unwavering commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, community well-being, and sustainable development.
To date, the Foundation has invested over US$4.9 million in health and wellness programmes, reaffirming its mission to enhance the quality of life in its host communities.
