
Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has pledged his commitment to support cultural initiatives that will accelerate the socio-economic development of the region.
He said cultural initiatives does not only preserve the identity of people but promote development through tourism, investment, and social cohesion.
MrGunu made the statement when he launched this year’s Yam Festival of the chiefs and people of the Asogli State in Ho, in the Volta Region.
The Minister encouraged the people to use the occasion to reflect on their shared values, deepen collaboration, and renew their commitment towards enhancing the peace and prosperity of the region and the country as a whole.
This year’s festival is on the theme: “Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation”.
MrGunu said the theme resonated powerfully with the aspirations of the?government and the people of the Volta Region.
“It reminds us that beyond the rich symbolism of the yam, the festival is also a call to collective responsibility, truth, and shared progress,” he said.
He commended TogbeAfede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, as well as the entire Asogli State Council, for their consistent leadership and dedication that had kept the festival vibrant and relevant over the years.
The Minister also donated an amount of GHC10,000 to support the celebration of the festival.
Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII, the Warlord of Asogli State, said the festival would focus on promoting peace, love and unity, which were key elements in enhancing development.
He said the people of Ho and Asogli in general were peace loving people and they cherished unity because they were one people with a common goal.
