The newly elected President of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen, Michael Tetteh Kwetey, has indicated that his outfit is ready to partner the government to help farmers and fishermen increase productivity.

He noted that once there is abundance of food in the market, prices of goods and services are adjusted downward. Mr.Tetteh Kwetey told The Chronicle shortly after his election at GNAFF’s 8th National Delegates Congress last Saturday- that GNAFF has been dormant and dysfunctional for the past eight years, which situation has crippled the association financially.
He said with the recognition of GNAFF with each region having its executives and an officer in the districts, farmers and fishermen are assured of receiving what is due them.
The GNAFF President mentioned that farm inputs, such as fertilisers and agrochemicals, among others, dispatched from the nation’s capital Accra do not to get to their destination nor distributed upon their arrival, and that the unavailability of premix fuels to fishermen at land beaches, affect productivity.
Mr.Kwetey further disclosed that GNAFF has put in place mechanisms to curb the said challenges following the formation of a proposed three-member committee in each district nationwide.
He further explained that the committees, comprising reps from the region, district and the MMDAs, will be notified upon the dispatch of farm inputs, and subsequently receive them for distribution to farmers.
He emphasised that the distribution would be done openly at a mini durbar to ensure that the farm inputs are not hoarded by a few individuals to serve their parochial interests.
Mr. Michael Tetteh Kwetey further assured fishermen of the availability of premix fuel at landing beaches.
