A 32-year-old filmmaker, Israel Agbo Forson, who was captured in a viral video threatening to kill police officers, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties.
Two of the sureties must be public servants earning no less than GH¢5,000 and residing within the court’s jurisdiction. The third surety must be justified with title deeds.
Forson is also required to deposit his Ghana Card with the court registry and report to the police investigator every other day.
Presiding Judge, Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, had initially denied bail and remanded Forson into custody while investigations continued.
The accused was first arraigned last Tuesday before the Dansoman Circuit Court, charged with threatening death after allegedly posting a video on social media in which he threatened to shoot police officers. He has pleaded not guilty and is expected to reappear in court on August 25, 2025.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, the incident occurred on June 18, 2025.
Forson was reportedly involved in a heated confrontation with officers from the Ghana Police Service after a patrol team stopped an Uber vehicle near Wisconsin University in Accra, where Forson was a passenger.
While the driver complied with a request to search the vehicle, Forson allegedly refused to allow a search of his belongings unless the officers wore gloves. The disagreement escalated, and Forson recorded the incident on his phone.
To de-escalate the tension, both parties agreed to proceed to the Taifa Police Station, where a search was conducted under the supervision of a senior officer. No illegal items were found, and Forson was subsequently released on police enquiry bail.
However, shortly after his release, Forson allegedly posted another video on social media in which he threatened to shoot any police officer who attempted to confront him again. The video quickly went viral, sparking public outcry and concern among law enforcement authorities.
Following further investigations, Forson was arrested on June 23, 2025. Although a search of his residence yielded no weapons or incriminating items, he was formally charged under Ghanaian criminal law.
During Tuesday’s court proceedings, Chief Inspector Wonder emphasized the seriousness of Forson’s alleged threats. “Such threats not only endanger the lives of officers but also erode public trust in the police,” he said.
The case has been adjourned to August 25, 2025.
