A 47-year-old Fire Service Officer, Goi Augustina Aboagyewaa Armah, has been dragged before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding 11 individuals, under the pretext of facilitating their enlistment into various security agencies.
Appearing before His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, the accused pleaded not guilty to six counts of defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The case was prosecuted by Chief Inspector Prince Tetteh Baafo.
According to the prosecution, the accused, stationed at the Trade Fair Fire Station in Accra, claimed to have access to “protocol slots” within the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
She allegedly collected varying amounts of money, ranging from GH¢15,000 to GH¢25,000 from the victims, all with promises of securing recruitment slots for them or their relatives.
It was revealed to the court that the accused received these payments through her Ghana Commercial Bank account and MTN mobile money wallet.
In total, she is alleged to have collected approximately GH¢194,970.00 from the complainants and victims.
Among those defrauded were military officers WOI Adongo Williams and SWOII David Baffoe from Burma Camp, as well as individuals from other walks of life, including a police officer, Samuel Asampana, a businesswoman, Perpetual Ayinpoka Adongo, a sales manager, Alebna Amogre Richard and an unemployed citizen, Sherifa Maanu Gariba.
The court heard that the accused stopped all communication after receiving the monies and failed to fulfil any of the enlistment promises.
Investigations further revealed that while she admitted receiving the funds, she claimed to have passed them on to one Emmanuel Sackey whom she failed to provide any credible information on or lead the police to for arrest.
The accused has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties, one of whom must be her husband, another a security officer and the third an ordinary Ghanaian citizen.
The court is expected to reconvene on July 21, 2025 to continue hearing the case.
