The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) has officially launched the 36th edition of its prestigious Annual National Marketing Performance Awards, with a bold declaration to reposition marketing as a core driver of Ghana’s economic transformation.
Speaking at the media launch held at the Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra, 30th June, 2025 the National President of CIMG, Mr. Michael Abbiw, emphasized that the awards are not merely a celebration of marketing excellence but a national platform for recognising ethical leadership, business innovation and social impact.
“Marketing is not just about promoting products. Marketing is about building nations. If Ghana is to thrive on the global stage, marketing must move from the sidelines to the centre of our national development agenda,” he declared.
Over the past 35 years, the CIMG Awards have evolved into Ghana’s benchmark for marketing distinction, with a rigorous and transparent selection process that continues to inspire confidence and credibility across industries.
This year’s theme: “Repositioning Brand Ghana: Marketing for Economic Growth and Transformation,” aligns with the Institute’s broader vision to use marketing as a tool for national rebranding and global competitiveness.
As part of this vision, Mr. Abbiw announced plans to collaborate with government in forming a Brand Ghana Council—a proposed multi-stakeholder body to coordinate and sustain national branding efforts beyond political transitions.
He noted that CIMG has already gained the backing of key government leaders, including the Minister for Education and the Chief of Staff, to take the lead in this national rebranding mission.
“Ghana’s brand must not rise and fall with changing governments. It must endure. It must be protected. It must be elevated consistently,” Mr. Abbiw stated.
In his address, Mr. Kwasi Kyere, Chairperson of the Awards, Conferences and Events Committee, reiterated CIMG’s commitment to high standards, credibility and innovation in the awards process.
He noted that over the years, the scheme has introduced an online platform that streamlines nominations and assessments, while partnering with reputable research institutions such as DatumForms Incorporated, Ipsos Ghana Ltd., and Media Monitoring Services to uphold integrity.
“We are dedicated to keeping the awards processes simple, transparent, and fair,” Mr. Kyere affirmed. “Our judging process remains rigorous and inclusive, involving technocrats, industry leaders and academia.”
The awards will cover six major competitive areas: Hall of Fame, Personality, Media & Marketing Communications, Business, Products and Not-for-Profit Organisations. A special CIMG President’s Award will also recognize individuals or entities that have made notable contributions to national progress.
Winners will be selected based on a wide range of criteria including marketing effectiveness, innovation, social impact, public image, customer orientation, and financial performance. Personality award winners such as the Marketing Man and Woman of the Year will be expected to initiate and implement a legacy project during their tenure.
Mr. Kyere highlighted that the assessment process is guided by a comprehensive questionnaire, supported by audited reports and evaluated by a multidisciplinary panel. If nominees do not meet the minimum standards, CIMG reserves the right to withhold awards in certain categories.
The Institute also expressed concern over the proliferation of questionable awards schemes in the country, positioning itself firmly as the gold standard for marketing recognition.
