The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, has granted bail to two young men accused of engaging in the illegal buying and selling of gold in the Central Region.
The accused, Bismark Essuman, 26, a gold buyer’s clerk, and Felix Nyarko, 23, a gold fabricator, appeared before the court on Monday but did not take their plea. They are facing two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime, and engaging in gold trading without proper authorization.
According to the prosecution, led by Jacob M. Kuubal, Esq, the two men were arrested on June 15, 2025, in Aboso Tarkwa, a well-known gold hub in the Central Region.
They are alleged to have conspired to engage in the sale and purchase of gold without the necessary licenses, in violation of Section 280 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and relevant provisions under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2015 (Act 900).
Her Honour Susana Eduful granted bail in the sum of GH¢400,000, each with four sureties. Two of the sureties must be salaried workers earning a minimum of GH¢5,000 per month, while the other two must be direct relatives of the accused persons.
The case has been adjourned to July 30, 2026, with the court directing the prosecution to ensure that the accused take their pleas at the next hearing.
