The Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Ahanta West, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo, last Thursday showed why he is not only an Engineer by profession, but an expert as well.
The MCE had led a team of police personnel and River Guards in an operation to flush out illegal miners, popularly known as ‘galamseyers’, at an illegal mining site at Tumentu-Abease in the Municipality.

The galamseyers, apparently aware of the arrival of the anti-illegal mining team, deliberately removed the control panels of the two excavators they were working with and hurriedly abandoned site.
Ordinarily, with the removal of the control panel, there was no way the two excavators could be moved until the control panels were fixed back.
The galamseyers had done that with the clear intent to come back later, fix the control panels and relocate the excavators from the site.
But MCE Aidoo, who is an Engineer by profession, displayed his engineering skills when he led his team to damage several components of the excavators to prevent the miners from sneaking back to take them away.
During the raid, the anti-galamsey operation team successfully seized five pumping machines, three motorbikes, two tricycles (locally known as aboboya) and one small black substance.
