Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has explained the reason why Felix Afena-Gyan has been named in Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team’s squad for the 2025 Unity Cup.
The Unity Cup runs from May 28 to May 31 in England with Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago competing for the trophy.
One of the surprise names in the squad is Afena-Gyan who plays for Juventus’ junior side; Afena-Gyan burst on the scene in a big way after breaking through at AS Roma but fell out of my favour with the national team handlers after a poor run of form but Otto Addo believes that the Juventus Next Gen player deserves another chance.
“There are a lot of young players and he’s also young…he did well and that’s why we want to give him another chance; he’s still young. His career hasn’t been like he expected it to be but this is normal in football. Sometimes you have ups and sometimes you have downs and for him, it’s another opportunity for him to show himself.”
With Juventus Next Gen in the Serie C this season, the 22 year old has six goals and three assists in 30 league games.
