A Deputy Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has dismissed recent allegations involving Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, describing the case as “dead upon arrival.”
Speaking on Net2 TV during a political panel discussion, Owusu-Bempah came to the defense of Sammy Gyamfi in the face of intensifying criticisms.
“Sammy Gyamfi’s case is dead upon arrival. Nobody has the right to attack that young man. I will say it anywhere. There’s nothing wrong. And I will say it again, there’s nothing wrong,” Owusu-Bempah boldly declared.
“$10,000? What are you talking about? That’s nothing! The young man can have $10,000. There’s nothing wrong. Let him enjoy whatever it is. If he erred in terms of youthful exuberance, then we can criticise him constructively. But not this public vilification,” Ernest Owusu-Bempah added.
While maintaining his loyalty to the ruling NPP, Ernest Owusu-Bempah used the platform to urge caution, stating that political discourse should be guided by facts, not speculative attacks.
“He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. But we must also not throw away ethics and fair treatment. Let’s find empirical evidence. Let’s stop the character assassination. If there is something criminal, let the appropriate institutions deal with it,” he said.
He also touched on the role of the Office of the Chief of Staff, warning against dragging neutral officers and civil servants into partisan accusations.
“Dragging the Chief of Staff into this is unnecessary. It’s not going to help. Let’s allow the young man to enjoy his role, unless there’s clear evidence he breached any laws.”
The controversy ignited after a video surfaced showing Sammy Gyamfi presenting what appeared to be US dollars to Agradaa.
This act drew swift condemnation, particularly from the Minority in Parliament, who deemed the gesture “inappropriate” and called for Gyamfi’s immediate suspension.
Responding directly to the escalating situation in a live Instagram video, Nana Agradaa expressed deep concern that the incident could jeopardise Sammy Gyamfi’s career.
