Hohoe United has criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for imposing a three-match home ban and a GHC30,000 fine on the club, describing the sanction as too harsh.
The Premier League outfit received the hefty sanction from the Ghana FA Disciplinary Committee following misconduct during their Ghana Premier League match against Vision FC last month.
Per the FA, the club was found guilty of failing to ensure the safety of match officials, allowing unauthorized entry into restricted areas, and failing to control supporters who threw objects onto the field of play.
The home match ban takes immediate effect, while the club has 14 days to pay the fine. Hohoe United has also been formally warned that any further misconduct could attract more severe sanctions.
However, Kenneth Asante, the Communications Director of Hohoe United, has criticized the decision, affirming the punishment is disproportionate.
“Before this sanction, we had pleaded not guilty on all the charges labeled against us. We proved that we are innocent, but were still hit with these sanctions. Truth be told, the three-match home ban and the GHâµ30,000 fine imposed on us are too harsh,” Asante told Medeamaa FM.
“In fact, we are not comfortable with the ban, especially considering our position on the league log,” he added.
The punishment comes as a major setback for Hohoe United in their fight to avoid relegation. Currently, the club is just two points above the drop zone despite winning three of their last four matches.
Hohoe United will now have to select an alternative venue for their next three home matches against Dreams FC, Bechem United and Berekum Chelsea.
Meanwhile, the club is also expected to consider the option of appealing the decision.
