Heart of Lions have botched to surrender ambition of winning the Ghana Premier League title despite recent unimpressive performance.
After 20 matches into the campaign, the Kpando-based club find themselves in 7th position with 27 points, a sizeable 16 points adrift of log leaders, Medeama SC. In their last five games of the Premier League, Lions has managed one win, one draw and three defeats across the period.
Speaking in an interview, the Communications Director of the club, Eric Eli Adzie refused to give up on the Premier League chase, stressing there are several games left that could define the season.
“In as much as Medeama are runaway leaders, I think anything can happen in football,” Adzie told Citi Sports. “When you look at the number of matches remaining, anything at all can happen. Clubs can falter, clubs can stumble, and others can also overtake them. So we are not out of the title race yet.”
Adzie acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but described them as part of a broader learning curve in their return to Ghana’s top flight.
“The Ghana Premier League has taught us some bitter lessons in recent weeks,” he said. “But we are not ruling ourselves out of contention because once you are in the competition, you must always aim for the ultimate.”
In matchday 21 of the Premier League campaign, Heart of Lions will take on giants Asante Kotoko at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Saturday, with both teams seeking for maximum points to turn their season around.
