Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko has played down suggestions of a direct title showdown ahead of his side’s meeting with Bibiani GoldStars, insisting his focus remains solely on his team’s performance.
Medeama travel to Dun’s Park sitting second in the Ghana Premier League standings, level on points with Asante Kotoko, while GoldStars are fifth and only two points off the summit.
The rescheduled fixture has taken on added significance, with all three clubs tightly packed near the top.
However, Tanko has stressed that speculation about the title race will not influence his preparation. He maintains that collecting points consistently, rather than tracking rivals, is the clearest path to success.
“We have to think about our own game first. If we get a point or three there, we will definitely close the gap. We are not thinking about Kotoko, we are thinking about Bibiani GoldStars,” Tanko said in his pre-match interview.
GoldStars have won all seven of their home league games this season and arrive on the back of a dramatic comeback win over Dreams FC.
