Nigeria edged past Tunisia in a pulsating 3-2 encounter on Saturday to seal qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles seized control just before halftime when Ademola Lookman provided the assist for Victor Osimhen, who calmly finished in the 44th minute to hand Nigeria a crucial lead.
Momentum remained with the West Africans after the break, and they doubled their advantage when Wilfred Ndidi struck early in the second half.
Ademola Lookman then capped an impressive performance by adding Nigeria’s third goal, seemingly putting the contest beyond reach.
However, Tunisia responded with renewed determination and reduced the deficit seven minutes later.
Hannibal Mejbri delivered a pinpoint free kick that was powerfully headed home by Montassar Talbi to reignite the Carthage Eagles’ hopes.
The Tunisians pushed forward relentlessly and set up a tense finale when Ali Abdi fired into the roof of the net in the 87th minute, beating goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali at close range.
Despite sustained late pressure, Nigeria showed composure and defensive resilience to see out the victory, securing maximum points and confirming their place in the knockout stage.
