Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says his ministry is implementing measures to improve revenue generation through better management of sports facilities and innovative programming.
Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, November 4, the Minister disclosed that the Fixed Asset Coordinating Unit of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has been directed to undertake a comprehensive valuation of the Authority’s assets.
The goal, he said, is to maximise the financial potential of existing sports infrastructure across the country.
“The Fixed Asset Coordinating Unit of the National Sports Authority has been deployed to effectively assess these assets, consider their true value,” Adams told the committee.
He explained that the Ministry intends to take a more proactive approach to revenue generation, reducing its reliance on external rentals for income.
“We don’t necessarily have to wait for people to come and rent before we get revenue. As NSA, we can drive activity and programs towards our facilities to drive revenue generation,” he stated.
Adams noted that the Ministry is exploring several options to make sports venues more commercially active and financially sustainable.
“We are looking at many options to be able to drive revenue and ramp it up a bit so we do what is expected of us,” he added.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to ensure state-owned sports assets are efficiently utilised and maintained.
