Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed his desire to have a long preparation camp with the team ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana secured qualification for next year’s tournament after a 7-0 aggregate win over Egypt in the final round of qualifiers. Bjorkegren, who guided the team to a bronze medal at the last edition in Morocco, believes extended preparation would improve performance and cohesion.
"I would love it if we could stay together for a couple of weeks before the tournament starts," Bjorkegren told Joy Sports. "It depends a little bit on the FIFA window and all those kinds of things, but that time really helps us when we can spend more time training, meeting, and getting together."
The Swede insisted that short preparation periods, such as just two or three training sessions before matches, limit the team’s ability to perform at its best, adding that a longer camp could make a significant difference.
Black Queens are set to begin preparations with a high-profile friendly against England on December 2.
The match will provide head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren an opportunity to assess his squad and experiment with tactics before planning a longer training camp ahead of the tournament.
