Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Eddie Nketiah sustained another hamstring injury during their 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The English-born Ghanaian forward, making his first start since recovering from a similar injury suffered in pre-season, was forced off at half-time after feeling discomfort in the same muscle.
Nketiah, 26, has been gradually reintroduced into the squad since his return at the end of September, featuring in eight matches and scoring twice. However, this latest setback could see him sidelined again just as he was regaining full fitness.
“We gave Jean-Philippe Mateta a rest,” Glasner explained after the match. “But unfortunately, we had to bring him on at half-time because Eddie Nketiah injured his hamstring again. Eddie’s injury is really tough, especially for him. It’s the next one after he missed the whole of pre-season and the start of the season. Hopefully, it is not too serious.”
Nketiah’s persistent fitness troubles have limited his impact since joining Palace, and the club will be hoping scans reveal only minor damage as they prepare for a busy Premier League schedule.
