Ragnar Ache shines against Bayern Munich but future in starting XI remains unclear

German-Ghanaian striker Ragnar Ache stepped back into the spotlight during FC Koln’s recent cup clash with Bayern Munich.

After weeks off the starting lineup, Ache was given a chance, and grabbed it, scoring his team’s sole goal in a 1-4 defeat. His display sent a clear message: physically and technically, he’s returned to top form.

Head coach Lukas Kwasniok noticed Ache’s performance, but isn't making promises about the striker’s spot for Sunday’s Bundesliga game against Hamburg. “A lot can happen before Sunday. He played well, the match was tailored to his strengths. But against HSV, things will be different,” Kwasniok explained. “We’ll need new solutions, but he definitely made an impression.”

Kwasniok also praised the progress Ache and others have made: “What excites me most is the physical improvement, not just with him, but with Joel Schmied and Lundi too. They’re now players who can handle 90 minutes at the Bundesliga level.”

While it’s uncertain if Ache will be in the starting eleven next time, one thing is clear, thanks to his strong display, he’s once again an option for the team. “He’s an option, but don’t hold me to that,” Kwasniok added.
