Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed confidence that several Ghanaian players possess the quality to excel at elite European clubs and play pivotal roles in the national team’s continued rise on the continent.
Speaking after guiding Ghana to a commanding 7-0 aggregate victory over Egypt to qualify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Swedish tactician lauded the team’s talent, discipline, and hunger for growth.
“The quality in the team is really, really good. I think there is another level in the team,” Bjorkegren told Joy Sports. “If you look at the players, there are many who are ready to take the next step. Even those already playing abroad can feature strongly for better clubs.”
Bjorkegren, who led the Queens to a bronze medal finish at the previous WAFCON, singled out emerging stars Comfort Yeboah and Nancy Amoh, both of whom recently secured moves to Spanish side DUX Logroño, as symbols of the country’s progress in women’s football.
“I’m happy when I see young players like Comfort and Nancy going to Spain. That’s a perfect step for them. What they’re doing day by day with their club teams will help us in the national team,” he added.
Ghana’s qualification marks another milestone under Bjorkegren’s leadership as preparations begin for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, which doubles as the qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
