Chairman of the Elite U19 Championship, Hon. Edem Agbana (MP), has urged young Ghanaian footballers to uphold patriotism and national pride as key guiding principles in their careers.
Speaking during an engagement session with players participating in the MTN Elite U19 Championship, Agbana stressed that representing Ghana must never be seen as a secondary option for any footballer.
"We need to teach our young people the values of patriotism and love for country. Ghana should not be second choice to any professional football player," Agbana remarked.
He noted that while pursuing professional careers abroad is commendable, players should always remember their roots and the honour that comes with wearing the national colours. According to him, nurturing athletes who value service to the nation over personal ambition is vital to building a strong and united football culture.
Agbana’s comments come amid renewed conversations about player loyalty to the national team, particularly as Ghana prepares for major international tournaments. He believes mentorship, education, and regular engagement with young footballers can help instil a deep sense of national pride and responsibility.
His call aligns with the broader goals of the Elite U19 Championship and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to raise a new generation of disciplined, patriotic, and committed football talents.
