The maiden edition of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship officially kicked off on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, marking a new chapter in Ghana’s youth football development. The opening ceremony was led by Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Member of Parliament for Ketu North. Hon. Agbana, who is an important investor in Ghana football, was joined by Executive Council Members Samuel Aboabire and Gideon Fosu, as well as National Juvenile Committee Chairman Joe Salam Abubakar, to officially launch the 11-day tournament. The competition got off to a thrilling start, as Eastern Region came from behind to record a commanding 5–2 victory over Upper West Region in the opening Group A encounter. Ashanti Region also produced a strong second-half performance to rally from behind and claim a 3–1 victory over Volta Region in their opening Group B opener at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. The entertaining contest set a vibrant tone for the championship, which features 10 regional teams from across the country battling for national glory. Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the Elite U-19 Championship forms a key part of the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, designed to create a clear development pathway for emerging talents from the grassroots to the professional and national levels. The tournament not only serves as a scouting ground for national youth coaches and clubs but also emphasizes the core values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Also in attendance at the opening ceremony were Vice-Chairman of the Planning Committee, Enoch Agyare Addo, and members Michael Fiaduse and Samuel Owusu Amoah, who joined dignitaries and football enthusiasts in celebrating the commencement of what promises to be a landmark event in Ghana’s football calendar.
