Hearts of Oak will have the opportunity to move to the top of the Ghana Premier League table when they face Bibiani Gold Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. However, the task will be far from easy, as their opponents have been equally impressive in the early stages of the campaign.
The Phobians are unbeaten this season and head into the clash on the back of a confidence-boosting 2–0 away victory over Berekum Chelsea, their first game in which they scored more than one goal. Bibiani Gold Stars, on the other hand, are enjoying a fine run of form, with successive victories against Heart of Lions and Berekum Chelsea keeping them within touching distance of the top.
Hearts coach Didi Dramani remains focused on continuous improvement despite his team’s unbeaten record.
"I think there is still more to improve. I have always said it. We have to remain confident, and we have to remain sustainable. We are still in the early days, and we still need to improve, but I think we are on the right path," Dramani said.
This fixture renews a growing rivalry between the two sides, just two months after their last meeting, a friendly during the GHALCA Top 4 competition, where Bibiani Gold Stars triumphed on penalties following a 2–2 draw. In their six previous encounters since March 2023, Gold Stars have the upper hand with three wins, while Hearts have yet to secure a victory, and the remaining matches have ended in draws.
Hearts have played six matches this season, winning three and drawing three, scoring four goals without conceding any. Gold Stars, meanwhile, have won four and lost two, netting seven and conceding seven. Both sides sit on 12 points, and with the top of the table within reach, Sunday’s showdown promises to be a thrilling contest in Accra.
