Ghana and Atalanta winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has revealed the decision to use his first name on his jersey despite it not being a common practice.
Most often clubs prefer printing their players last names on their jerseys, but Sulemana has used Kamaldeen since his days at FC Nordsjaelland.
According to the 23-year-old, his decision comes out of the respect he has for his father and the family.
"I chose. In our culture, if my father and I are sitting at a table and someone calls 'Sulemana,' they're referring to him and not me. It's a form of respect: I'm Kamaldeen," he told Gazzetta.
"There are six of us in my family; I have two brothers and three sisters. I'm the third. I left home at 11 to go to the Academy, far from home. I spent a lot of time away from them, but I have a wonderful relationship with my brothers.
"I'm not the only footballer in the family: my older brother, Abdul Rauf, plays in the Ghana Premier League with Vision FC, and my younger brother, Hakim, plays in the Danish second division with Hillerod."
Sulemana is enjoying an amazing start to his career in Italy, where he has already bagged two goals in six league games.
His sensational strike against giants Juventus was voted Goal of the Month at Atalanta.
