Former Ghana midfielder Yussif Chibsah has thrown his support behind Otto Addo, insisting the Black Stars coach deserves to remain in charge after guiding the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo led Ghana to five victories in their last six qualifiers to secure a place at next year’s tournament, becoming the first Ghanaian coach to achieve back-to-back World Cup qualifications following his success in 2022.
Despite criticism over the team’s failure to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Chibsah believes Addo has met his primary target and should be backed to continue.
"Coaches are assessed by their output. So far, Otto Addo has delivered," Chibsah, who also serves as Head of Player Relations at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), told Asema FM.
"The ultimate goal was to qualify us for the World Cup, and he has done that. There is no justification for his dismissal. From every angle, it would be unfair to say Otto Addo has failed."
Otto Addo's side will return to action next month when they take on Japan and South Korea in two high-profile friendlies.
