The family of former Ghana international Peter Lamptey, fondly remembered as “Goal Thief,” has formally notified the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of his passing.
The late Peter Lamptey, who featured for Accra Great Olympics and Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Kaneshie Poly Clinic in Accra.
A prolific striker during his playing days, Lamptey formed part of Hearts of Oak’s celebrated attacking lineup alongside Mohammed Polo, Anas Seidu, Mama Acquah, and Robert Hammond.
He represented Ghana at various international tournaments, including the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, and was regarded as one of the most clinical forwards of his generation.
Lamptey’s decorated career saw him win five Ghana Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and finish as top scorer in the 1973 league season.
The GFA has expressed its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community, describing his passing as a great loss to Ghanaian football.
