FC Samartex 1999 were held to a 1-1 draw by Karela United in a fiercely contested Ghana Premier League matchday two clash at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi on Sunday.
The visitors stunned the home crowd when they struck first in the 27th minute.
Forward Zaidan Mohammed reacted quickly to a loose ball in the box, tapping home after Eric Antwi’s effort had been parried into his path.
The goal was historic, as it marked Karela’s first-ever strike at the Nsenkyire Arena, underlining their intent to challenge the Timber Giants on their own turf.
Samartex, who had come into the game with a formidable home record of 10 matches unbeaten, were forced to chase the game.
They dominated possession after conceding, pressing hard for an equaliser, but Karela’s defence held firm for long spells.
The breakthrough finally came in the 77th minute when former Ghana international Samuel Tetteh showed his quality, finishing off a sweeping move to restore parity for the hosts.
Despite late pressure from both sides, neither could find a winner as the referee brought proceedings to an end after five minutes of added time.
The result leaves Samartex with two points from their opening two matches, while Karela maintain their unbeaten start with four points.
Both teams will now shift focus to matchday three, where they aim to build consistency in the early stages of the campaign.
