German-born Ghanaian striker Ilyas Ansah continued his remarkable scoring form in the Bundesliga, finding the net once again as Union Berlin defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 4-3 in an enthralling contest on Sunday afternoon.
The 19-year-old forward opened the scoring after just nine minutes, slotting home from close range following an assist from Serbian teammate Andrej Ilic.
The early breakthrough set the tone for a pulsating clash at the Deutsche Bank Park.
Union’s dominance in the first half was spearheaded by Scotland international Oliver Burke, who netted a first-half goal in the 32nd minute before completing his hat-trick with strikes in the 53rd and 56th minutes.
Young defender Nathaniel Brown also got on the scoresheet, finding the target just before the interval for the hosts.
Frankfurt fought back through Can Yilmaz Uzun and a Jonathan Burkardt penalty, but Union held firm to secure a vital three points on the road.
Ansah’s goal against Frankfurt means he has now scored in every Bundesliga match this season, taking his tally to four goals in four games.
His sharpness in front of goal and tireless work rate have quickly endeared him to Union fans and further strengthened his case for a potential Black Stars call-up in the near future despite presently playing the German youth side.
Union will next shift focus to their upcoming league fixture, hoping Ansah’s blistering form continues to inspire their campaign.
