Asante Kotoko players have agreed to surrender their mobile phones to the team manager a day before every Ghana Premier League match in the new season.
The measure, which also requires players to hand over their devices by 10:00 p.m. each night, is aimed at instilling discipline and ensuring players get adequate rest ahead of games.
The development was revealed by the club’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, during an interview on SportyDrive on Thursday.
“To ensure that the boys are well disciplined. Because without discipline, they cannot perform. They understand the measure being put in place because of the benefit they themselves will get when Kotoko is winning,” Duku explained.
He added that the players themselves agreed to the measure during a meeting last week.
The decision follows damaging revelations by former Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay, who accused some ex-teammates of misconduct.

In a viral interview, Blay alleged that Guinean midfielder Camara Mohammed “snatched” his girlfriend, leading to a police case. He also accused striker Kwame Opoku of taking over another partner he had introduced to him, while further alleging that Camara and Joseph Ablor smoked shisha during their time at the club.
Blay later apologised, while the club launched an investigation into the matter. One of the outcomes of that process is the new rule requiring players to hand over their phones.
The disciplinary measure is expected to restore order in the Kotoko camp as they prepare to begin the 2025/26 league season this weekend.
